COURSE DESCRIPTION
This year HED/CINE 527 is being offered as a 2-semester class with a special focus investigating the link between mindfulness practice (meditation) and health. Each student team will research and create a 15-minute documentary that explores how mindfulness practice is being used to advance health a community of choice such as schools, prisons, hospitals, ect.
- FALL 2010: Research & Development. Students will identify and partner with a community-based organization; conduct research for their film story; practice interviewing and filming.
- SPRING 2011: Production. Students will conduct filmed interviews; assemble and digitally edit a 15-minute film; create a discussion guide and distribution plan.
- Note: Each team will have access to a Panasonic DVX100B camera + sound and lighting equipment reserved for the class.
TO ENROLL
No previous knowledge/experience with mindfulness practice or documentary filmmaking required. Students must have upper division standing. We are seeking 8 - 10 non-cinema majors and 8 - 10 cinema majors to create 4 interdiscplinary teams. Students will receive an email confirmation of their acceptance into the class and add stickers will be distributed the first day.

* The class alternates between offering semester long course where students choose the topics of their films and a year-long course dedicated to a theme.
